About the Role: We support individuals with Autism, who may also have additional difficulties/disabilities. The post holder will gain satisfaction from working either as part of a team, or on a one to one basis, by providing skilled support which positively impacts individuals health and wellbeing, whilst enabling people to fulfil their potential.

Your Daily Tasks as an Autism Team Leader will involve:

  • Developing person centred working relationships with individuals, utilising Autism specific approaches and evidence based methods, these interventions may utilise approaches such as the SPELL framework, TEACCH and other such frameworks which will provide the routine and structure that best meets the needs of the individual to ensure that the support enables well-being and increased levels of engagement/interaction.
  • Developing, with the wider team, the structure and routine required to best support the needs of the individual and ensure this routine and structure is adhered to.
  • Through training, mentoring, self-reflection and experiences, developing an empathetic approach to supporting the needs of individuals with Autism which will be displayed through practise.
  • Supporting the development of excellent Autism practise as well as the achievement and retention of Autism Accreditation for the individuals living at the service, to provide the best possible support.
  • Supporting individuals through behaviours that may challenge, understanding the function of the behaviour to the individual, supporting the development of PBS plans and following plans effectively to limit the impact of the behaviour on the individual’s lives.
  • Carrying out your duties in accordance with MHC’s; medication procedures, safeguarding policies and procedures, PBS strategy and PCP, quality assurance requirements.
  • Actively leading a team of Autism Support Workers and Key Worker Coordinators in accordance with the homes Statement of Purpose.
  • Taking responsibility for the maintenance of daily records, ensuring these are completed comprehensively and accurately.
  • Acting as the person in charge in the absence of the Deputy/Registered Manager.
  • Carrying out staff supervisions, de-briefs, participate and occasionally lead reflective practice sessions.
  • Identifying and addressing any areas of quality improvement within the service.

Learning & Development:

  • Commit to the development of your learning and practice, supporting people with

Autism Spectrum Disorders.

  • Practically demonstrate reflective and blended learning on an ongoing basis, as well as completing any other training requirements for the role
  • Undertake Continuous Personal Development through taking personal responsibility for your self-development and lifelong learning.
  • Finding fulfilment in supporting adults with Autism and preserving their rights by challenging poor practice and a lack of understanding, whilst actively promoting a more inclusive world for Autistic People.

About the Service: Elm is a residential home for people living with a learning disability and/ or Autism. The home adopts a ‘Psychologically Informed Environment’ or PIE – which means that people who live at Elm are supported to best meet their needs. This improves their quality of life, through helping staff to implement all of the latest research and knowledge, to inform the needs of the residents.

Residents also have access to the ‘Highfield Hub’ which is the active support centre. Here, residents can engage in social and recreational activities with other residents, as well as more formal based teaching, learning and education whereby qualifications can be gained.

The service at Elm is designed to promote the well-being of each person to live a complete and fulfilled life through a person centred approach. The service follows a Person Centred Planning model so that each resident’s care and support is individualised to their particular needs. Each resident is encouraged and supported in many ways to play an active role in their own care and decision making process. Important elements of the service include the individualised activities programmes together with maintaining family contact and social networks whilst currently working towards Autism Accreditation.
